DEVELOPING LITERACY SKILLS
FOR CHILDREN WHO LEARN DIFFERENTLY
“Some children will learn to read in spite of incidental teaching, others never learn unless they are taught in an organized, systematic, efficient way by a knowledgeable teacher using a well-designed instructional approach”

Dr. Fedora's Orton-Gillingham Approach to Overcoming Learning Disabilities
Recent studies indicate that approximately one in five students struggles to read and write. Dr. Pledger Fedora strives to provide services, training, and educational workshops and support to educators, students, dyslexia advocates, and parents so that they have the skills and knowledge to help their students and children reach their reading, writing, and educational goals.
Dr. Fedora is dedicated to expediting the acquisition of foundational literacy skills by using the Orton-Gillingham approach, a direct, explicit, multisensory instructional approach that is proven to be a powerful tool for children with dyslexia and other learning disabilities. She offers Orton-Gillingham tutoring services to both young and older students, training sessions to teachers and educators, and workshops to parents and administrators.
She firmly believes that children with learning disabilities are very misunderstood and that the Orton-Gillingham approach is the most powerful tool to unlock their incredible and often overlooked talents and abilities. The instructional components of the Orton-Gillingham approach are consistent with those identified by the National Reading Panel and Common Core State Standards: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
