Parent Workshops

The most important thing one can do as a parent of a dyslexic or struggling learner is to get educated.  There is no one who knows a child like the parent or caregiver.

The Orton-Gillingham approach is an evidence-based, scientific approach to reading and writing instruction. Dr. Fedora offers a variety of Orton-Gillingham courses for teachers, educators, tutors, and individuals with an interest on learning more about Orton-Gillingham.  Practicum Opportunities are also available to those trainees who have completed a training course.

Dr. Fedora has trained a multitude of educators and tutors in the Orton-Gillingham Approach and will help you find your younger or older student an appropriate private tutor to work 1:1 with your child or in a small group setting.

“Some children will learn to read in spite of incidental teaching, others never learn unless they are taught in an organized, systematic, efficient way by a knowledgeable teacher using a well-designed instructional approach”

Dr. Louisa Moats,

Literacy Expert and Author of LETRS

Recent studies indicate that approximately one in five students struggles to read and write.  Dr. Pledger Fedora strives to provide services, training, and educational workshops and support to educators, students, dyslexia advocates, and parents so that they have the skills and knowledge to help their students and children reach their reading, writing, and educational goals.

Dr. Fedora is dedicated to expediting the acquisition of foundational literacy skills by using the Orton-Gillingham approach, a direct, explicit, multisensory instructional approach that is proven to be a powerful tool for children with dyslexia and other learning disabilities.  She offers Orton-Gillingham tutoring services to both young and older students, training sessions to teachers and educators, and workshops to parents and administrators.

She firmly believes that children with learning disabilities are very misunderstood and that the Orton-Gillingham approach is the most powerful tool to unlock their incredible and often overlooked talents and abilities.  The instructional components of the Orton-Gillingham approach are consistent with those identified by the National Reading Panel and Common Core State Standards:  phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

Dr. Pledger Fedora is the ultimate professional as well as an amazing mentor.  I was enrolled in her associate training program during the summer of 2020. She presented the material to us in a concise and organized manner and was extremely thorough in her approach to teaching.

My practicum began in December of 2020. During that period, I gained practical experience to apply the knowledge I was taught during my training. Dr. Fedora was accessible and guided me to present my lessons in the most effective way for my student to learn. I highly recommend Dr. Fedora and her program. Working with her gave me the knowledge and confidence I needed to be a successful OG tutor.

As a speech therapist, I found working with Pledger this past year was like working with one of my counterparts.  She is well-organized and shows you exactly what to do, step by step. She is knowledgeable and a fantastic mentor.

I immediately connected with her and working with the Orton Gillingham approach.  I love how she was very flexible with our schedules.  She made it fun and enjoyable for all parties involved! She is one of my most valued therapy tools!
